We recommend visiting. 1. Shiroka Laka Shiroka Laka is a Rhodope village known for its rich history. Here you will experience the true hospitality of the Rhodope people, enjoy unique, authentic architecture and indescribable, pure nature. The village is an attractive place for tourists, where you will find a variety of ways to spend your vacation in the mountains. In Shiroka Laka, complete architectural ensembles have been preserved, due to which the village has been declared the only one of its kind in Bulgaria in terms of architectural, folklore and ethnographic reserve. 2. Stoykite Bagpipe Museum - one of the most interesting sights. Here you can see unique exhibits provided by over a hundred donors from different folklore regions of Bulgaria. The most notable exhibit is the bagpipe, with which the famous song of Valya Balkanska was recorded - "Izlel e Delyu haidutin", which became famous even in space. 3. Ethnographic areal complex – Zlatograd In Zlatograd is located the ethnographic areal complex “Zlatograd” – an open-air museum, which at the same time is part of the daily life of the city. The complex includes an ethnographic museum, craft workshops and an exhibition with water facilities. The tour of the complex begins from the museum, where visitors can get acquainted with the history of the region. The museum has an archaeological collection, an exhibition that tells about the livelihood of the local population in the past, collections of costumes, jewelry and ritual equipment. A number of Bulgarian holidays and customs are celebrated in the ethnographic complex – Trifon Zarezan, Baba Marta, Todorovden, Enyovden, Koledari and others. 4. Momchilova Fortress The Momchilova Fortress is located near the village of Gradat, about 16 km from the town of Smolyan. The fortification was built in late antiquity (around the 6th century). It was included in the general system of fortresses against the barbarians coming from the north, whose attacks were particularly frequent at that time. At the entrance you will receive a brief story about the fortress and its history, and during your walk you will enjoy the majestic nature and the great views of the Rhodope Mountains. 5 Agushevi Konatsi, Mogilitsa village The Agushevi Konatsi near the village of Mogilitsa have been an architectural and artistic monument of national importance since 1964. They are the largest late medieval feudal castle on the Balkan Peninsula. The Agushevi Konatsi consist of three successively connected courtyards with residential and farm buildings, and are isolated from each other by internal walls. In each courtyard there was a well, the home of the master, the domestic servants, the premises for temporary farm workers, the stable, the barn, the granary and other farm premises. 6. Bachkovo Monastery "Assumption of the Virgin" The Bachkovo Monastery "Assumption of the Virgin" is located in the village of Bachkovo. It is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria, after the Rila Monastery. Every year on the second day of Easter, a gathering of village families is held in the "Kluviata" area, located southeast of the village. In honor of the patroness of the Bachkovo Monastery - the Holy Virgin, the laity carry the miraculous icon of the Mother of God from the monastery temple to the rocks at "Kluviata" for worship. 8. Krastova Gora Krastova Gora, located 60 km from Plovdiv, 40 km from Asenovgrad and about 80 km from Pamporovo, is one of the most influential Christian centers in Bulgaria, attracting numerous pilgrims. It is located at an altitude of 1545 meters above sea level, in the Middle Rhodopes, and is located among a picturesque forest. According to legend, a fragment of the Cross of Christ is buried here, which is the reason for the high importance of the place. The complex includes the Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, completed in 1995, from which you can reach the top of a small hill along an alley, where chapels dedicated to the 12 apostles are located. 9. Perperikon - Perperikon, located 15 km from Kardzhali and about 100 km from Pamporovo, is a majestic rock complex in the eastern Rhodopes, which has existed for about 8,000 years. This archaeological site was initially described by Prof. Ivan Velkov in 1930, but gained considerable popularity thanks to the research of Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov. As a result, Perperikon has established itself as an important cultural and tourist site, even covered by CNN. The complex consists of the Palace, the Acropolis and numerous other archaeological sites. It was an important religious center for the ancient inhabitants of the area, who worshipped the Sun God.
